The brief
The Temple of Bel at Palmyra was dynamited on the evening news, and the Al Saftar Mosque went the same way. So did the citadel at Aleppo, the monastery of St Elian, the Mosque of al-Nuri. UNESCO wanted what was left of them kept somewhere a generation raised on games would actually go.
The idea
Minecraft: Education Edition, and the builders are schoolchildren. Nothing in it dissolves or fades, because nothing in Minecraft does: what came down in rubble goes back up one voxel at a time, obeying the same rules the game does.

The result
More than thirty countries have adopted the project, and thousands of students have built inside it.
